  1.              THE ENEMY    
  2.  
  3. I confronted those who attacked my faith,
  4. and told them of God's love.
  5. But they refused to hear my side,
  6. so I said they'd go to Hell.
  7.  
  8. The pagan, the heathen, the atheist,
  9. laugh and say, "How dumb.
  10. You follow a myth, a fairy tale!
  11. Why bother with this god?"
  12.  
  13. They didn't quote a scripture,
  14. nor cite from any books.
  15. They merely offered logic,
  16. to account for their deep pain.
  17.  
  18. I didn't see their hurt,
  19. I could only sense their anger.
  20. And since I felt they were a threat
  21. I mounted an attack.
  22.  
  23. I didn't give compassion.
  24. That's Jesus' job, not mine.
  25. Instead I took their faith to task
  26. and condemned them all, each one.
  27.  
  28. I told them of their failings,
  29. and listed all their sins.
  30. Of course I didn't judge them.
  31. It was 'discernment' that I used.
  32.  
  33. I gave them verses then and there,
  34. no matter the ears were deaf,
  35. to the 'Word' that I had given them;
  36. a 'Word' to them, unknown.
  37.  
  38. They really didn't know of God,
  39. nor the book I told them of.
  40. I didn't care, they had attacked,
  41. and my God needed me!
  42.  
  43. Of course, they didn't want to change,
  44. no one got saved this night.
  45. Just as well, we don't want them,
  46. we'll merely let them burn.
  47.  
  48. But I was proud anyway,
  49. for God is on my side.
  50. The creator of all that lives and breathes,
  51. was protected once again,
  52.  
  53. By defenders of the faith he gave,
  54. no quarter did I give.
  55. I quoted verses right and left,
  56. but ignored ones on 'compassion'.
  57.  
  58. I didn't try to help their hurt,
  59. I only pointed fingers.
  60. I smuggly said, "God loves you,"
  61. then lied and said, "Me too."
  62.  
  63. I said that they should seek my God,
  64. but forgot to tell them how.
  65. I didn't even show the love
  66. of Jesus, nor introduce him.
  67.  
  68. And as I sit and contemplate,
  69. the tenets of my faith,
  70. and mull why I can never seem,
  71. to win a willing convert.
  72.  
  73. I think of Jesus as I look
  74. at me, gazing from the mirror.
  75. And wonder as I'm staring back,
  76. just who His enemy is.
